Tax Incremental Financing Districts (TIF)
Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) or Tax Increment Districts (TIDs) are somewhat interchangeable terms that are used as an economic development tool used by the City of Racine and other municipalities to leverage private development investment. This tool has been
available since the state of Wisconsin adopted a TIF statute in 1975.
Racine has 12 active Tax Incremental Districts (TIDs) to support a wide variety of projects and seven former TIDS. These TIDs have been instrumental in assisting projects like Johnson Outdoors headquarters on Main Street in Downtown Racine, and conducting other community improvements
like streetscape enhancements.
