A communicable disease can be transmitted from one person to another by direct or indirect contact. Communicable diseases include common, usually treatable ailments such as influenza (flu), varicella (chicken pox), and some sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and chlamydia. Some communicable diseases can be more serious, such as tuberculosis and smallpox.
